Destiny, 5, suffered for weeks from what doctors initially thought was only a cold, but when her coughing and wheezing continued to worsen, her mother knew that something wasn’t right and rushed her to a local emergency room. Destiny was diagnosed with asthmatic bronchitis and prescribed antibiotics and an inhaler, but as often happens, Medicaid refused to cover the expensive prescriptions. As a last resort, the family came to C*A*R*E* Chest and were relieved to learn that we would pay for the needed medications. When they stopped in to show their appreciation, Destiny’s infectious smile and positive outlook touched us all. “I can’t wait to see my friends at school again,” she happily told our staff. “And play hopscotch again too!” Her mother said she couldn’t express the gratitude the family felt for our help.
