A few years ago, Betty noticed her vision deteriorating at a rapid rate. Increasingly unable to do everyday activities, she saw a doctor and learned that she had macular degeneration—a condition that causes severe vision loss and can lead to blindness. With no vision insurance and a meager monthly income, Betty felt hopeless, knowing that she couldn’t afford equipment she needed to see well enough to perform everyday tasks.
